In Nigeria, proving who you are is really important for many things, like opening a bank account or getting government services. To help with this, the government created something called the National Identification Number (NIN). It’s a unique number that identifies you as a Nigerian citizen or resident. Think of it like your digital ID.

Now, Under President Bola Tinubu government, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has come up with a new and improved ID card. This card doesn’t just show who you are; it’s also like a mini bank card, letting you do things like pay for stuff or access different services.

More information released by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) reveals that the card will be activated for all government intervention and services across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. It will also be activated for the eNaira in compliance with the EMV operational and security standards.

If you’re interested in getting this card, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to a Bank or Authorized Center: Find a nearest bank or a place approved by the government where you can apply for the AfriGO card.
  2. Provide Your NIN: When you apply, you’ll need to give them your National Identification Number (NIN) and prove that you’re at least 18 years old.
  3. Verification Process: The bank will then send your information to the NIMC to verify it.
  4. Get Your Card: Once everything checks out, they’ll make your card and give it to you.

Holders are cautioned against sharing photocopies or scanned images of the card containing sensitive payment details with unauthorized parties. Although the user’s NIN isn’t visible on the card, it can be accessed by scanning the QR code provided. Additionally, only citizens with a valid National Identification Number (NIN) are eligible to obtain the new NIMC cards.
